At the poster session (August 7th) of the 35th Annual Meeting of the Japan Energy Society, held from August 6th to 7th, 2026, at the Tokyo City University Setagaya Campus (Setagaya-ku, Tokyo), Yuto Sato and Hiromu Yoshihara, first-year master's students in the Materials Creation and Basic Science Program, Graduate School of Integrated Science and Human Sciences, received the Poster Presentation Award. This award was selected as an outstanding poster presentation based on votes from conference participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yuto Sato is focusing on biodiesel derived from rice oil as a way to contribute to the SDGs and net zero energy supply, and is researching ways to improve the efficiency of its refining process. By precipitating the solid at low temperatures and separating it, biodiesel with high low-temperature fluidity can be obtained, making it usable in colder regions. In this presentation, he demonstrated the possibility of improving the efficiency of recovering the high low-temperature fluidity liquid by swinging the temperature during the refining and cooling process to discharge the liquid component from the solid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hiromu Yoshihara is focusing on hydrated gas separation methods as a way to contribute to the separation and recovery of greenhouse gases, and is conducting research to improve the efficiency of this process. Gas hydrates are ice-like compounds in which gas molecules are trapped within a cage-like structure formed by water under low temperature and high pressure, and can trap and separate greenhouse gases. In this presentation, he proposed multi-stage decomposition of the slurry by utilizing the fact that the concentration of greenhouse gases in the hydrate increases with rising temperature. He prototyped a tower-type apparatus for this purpose and demonstrated the possibility of multi-stage decomposition and concentration operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
