Day in the Life
Day in the life of a JICA Student. (Aaron)
START)
6:00 AM – I usually start my day by doing some exercise. I particularly enjoy the morning walk when going to the gym nearby campus.
8:00 AM – This is the time I normally arrive at the laboratory I work with. It is a very convenient place as we have our own working stations and a dedicated library to hydrology with very good books.
10:00 AM – It is by this time that I would be assisting to some classes on a seminar format. It is very useful to keep updated and share the learning process with several other international and Japanese students.
12:00 PM – Lunch time! It is a most anticipated time of the day. Cafeterias at our Campus offer several delicious options of Japanese dishes.
1:00 PM – Back to work. It is in the afternoon that I usually have some discussion sessions with my advisor or with my colleagues. This can be either by 1-on-1 sessions or lab seminars.
5:00 PM – Usually the end of my working hours. A very nice opportunity to hang out with friends around Niigata city area. There are lots of places where you can play sports, enjoy some local recipes and even learn about Japanese culture, history and geography by visiting any of the available museums.
Even though this is how my every day life looks like on a regular basis, the days I enjoy the most are my field trips for data collection. Being out in the nature and to witness the changing of the seasons is simply amazing.
After a long day of fieldwork, visiting a local “onsen” is one of my most do activities. Here you can relax and recover from the fatigue, so I definitely recommend it!
