Graduate School of Integrated Arts and Sciences (Master's Program)
We seek students who, having cultivated advanced specialized knowledge through their studies in this program, are eager to become frontrunners in life innovation, creating new knowledge and value through the integration of different fields, and tackling social issues and the pursuit of truth.
Qualities and abilities required of students
- Basic knowledge of academic fields: Possess basic knowledge in one's field of expertise.
- Interdisciplinary and multifaceted perspective: A person who is motivated to create new knowledge and value by integrating knowledge from multiple academic fields and using multiple approaches, rather than being limited to one academic field.
- problem solving ability: A proactive and collaborative approach to complex social issues, and the basic research skills required to do so.
- Communication skills: Ability to use advanced language skills (including English) to collect, organize, and disseminate information in a variety of ways.
- Ethics and a sense of social contribution: Possess a strong sense of ethics and a sense of contribution to the local and international community.
Basic policy for student selection
The selection process for admission to the Graduate School of Integrated Arts and Sciences (Master's Program) will be conducted in the following three categories. In all selection categories, an examination of the documents submitted at the time of application (document review) and an oral examination will be conducted.
General selection
- Document reviewApplicants' academic background and motivation for research will be evaluated through their letter of intent, research plan, resume, academic transcript, and official language proficiency test results. Specifically, basic knowledge of academic fields will be assessed through transcripts (and resumes as needed), interdisciplinary and multifaceted perspectives through letter of intent, problem-solving ability through research plans, written communication skills through research plans, and English communication skills through official language proficiency test results.
- Oral examination: An oral examination will be conducted to directly assess the applicant's interdisciplinary and multifaceted perspective, problem-solving ability, oral communication skills, ethics, and awareness of social contribution.
Special Selection for Working Adults
- Document reviewApplicants' academic background and motivation for research will be evaluated through their application letter, research plan, resume, and academic transcript. Specifically, basic knowledge of the academic field will be assessed through the transcript (and resume as a supplement if necessary), interdisciplinary and multifaceted perspectives will be assessed through the application letter, problem-solving ability through the research plan, and written communication skills through the research plan.
- Oral examination: An oral examination will be conducted to directly assess the applicant's interdisciplinary and multifaceted perspective, problem-solving ability, oral communication skills, ethics, and awareness of social contribution.
Special selection for international students
- Document reviewApplicants' academic background and motivation for research will be evaluated based on their statement of purpose, research plan, resume, academic transcript, and (Master’s Program of Humanities and Social Sciencess only) official language proficiency test results. Specifically, basic knowledge of the academic field will be assessed based on the transcript (and resume as a supplement if necessary), interdisciplinary and multifaceted perspectives based on the statement of purpose, problem-solving ability based on the research plan, written communication ability based on the research plan, and (Master’s Program of Humanities and Social Sciencess only) Japanese communication ability based on the results of the official language proficiency test.
- Oral examination: An oral examination will be conducted to directly assess the applicant's interdisciplinary and multifaceted perspective, problem-solving ability, oral communication skills, ethics, and awareness of social contribution.
Furthermore, in the Clinical Psychology field of the Humanities and Social Sciences program, a written academic aptitude test will be conducted for all selection categories in order to rigorously confirm the applicant's fundamental knowledge of the academic field.
