Associate Professor Nozomi Hada of the Faculty of Science receives the 2025 River Foundation Encouragement Award
Associate Professor Nozomi Hatano of the Department of Environmental Science, Faculty of Science, at our university has received the "2025 River Foundation Encouragement Award" from the River Foundation.
This award is given to young researchers who have produced outstanding research results related to rivers and aquatic environments, and in 2025, two researchers were selected.
Associate Professor Hatano received this award in recognition of the high quality of his research project, "Comparison of Sediment Production and Transport Processes by Rivers under Different Climatic and Geological Conditions," which he has been working on since 2020.
This study analyzed modern riverine sediments and sediments from the last glacial period to the present day (approximately 20,000 years) in inland lakes and their basins in central Japan, as well as major rivers and tributaries. The study aimed to clarify how the processes of sediment production, transport, and deposition differ due to geological and climatic variations.
These findings elucidate the characteristics of sediment transport in response to climate and geological conditions, and are expected to provide fundamental knowledge for understanding and predicting the formation process and changes in river environments from the present to the future.
The awards ceremony and acceptance speeches were held in Tokyo on August 22, 2025.
